A new leadership era has begun at the Lagos State Police Command as CP Tijani Fatai, psc, officially assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for the state.
He takes over from Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner of Police from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command disclosed that CP Fatai hails from Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State.
He attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, between 1979 and 1984, and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University, formerly Ogun State University.
CP Fatai enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on June 10, 1994, beginning a career that has spanned over three decades.
Before his latest posting, he served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt. He also held several strategic positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Department of Operations, Maritime Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, and at the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
His previous assignments include Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Department of Finance and Administration, Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos; Area Commander in Ilaro, Ogun State; Maiduguri Metro, Borno State; and Area C, Surulere, Lagos State.

He also served as Squadron Commander, 5 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Benin, Edo State, and 17 PMF, Akure; Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos; and Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ogere, Ogun State, as well as Ijanikin and Alakara divisions in Lagos State.
CP Fatai is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, reflecting his exposure to global policing standards and best practices.
The Command described his career trajectory as marked by leadership, professionalism and dedication to duty, expressing confidence in his capacity to effectively steer the affairs of the Lagos State Police Command.
In his remarks, the new Commissioner reassured stakeholders and residents of Lagos State of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms within the Command. He pledged to strengthen internal security architecture, enhance inter-agency collaboration, deepen community partnerships, and uphold the mandate of protecting lives and property in line with international best practices.
The Lagos State Police Command called on members of the public to continue supporting and cooperating with the police under the new leadership as it seeks to deepen professionalism, discipline and improved service delivery across the state.
