The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) will return for its 12th edition, with organisers promising a bigger and more inclusive celebration of African film and television.

The ceremony is scheduled for May 9, 2026, as part of a lineup of activities leading up to what is widely regarded as Africa’s most prestigious entertainment event.

Organisers officially launched the new edition on Thursday, March 26, during a press conference at the MultiChoice Studio, bringing together key stakeholders from across the creative industry to unveil plans for the awards.
Since its inception in 2013, the AMVCA has grown into a major platform for recognising excellence in African storytelling while contributing significantly to the continent’s creative economy.

According to organisers, the awards have generated over 30,000 jobs across sectors such as production, logistics, and technical services.

Speaking at the event, Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, said this year’s edition will place strong emphasis on recognising behind-the-scenes contributors shaping African cinema.

She noted that beyond the glamour, the awards aim to spotlight craftsmanship by honouring writers, directors, editors, designers, and technical professionals who play vital roles in the industry.

The 12th edition will also introduce new categories to enhance its pan-African reach, including Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa, expanding recognition of diverse cultures and languages.

In total, 32 categories will be featured: 18 decided by a jury, 11 open to public voting, and three special awards, including Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer honours.

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has been appointed Head Judge for this year’s edition, bringing decades of experience to the role.

The awards are headlined by Don Julio as lead sponsor, alongside major partners such as Guinness and MTN.
Organisers also announced that nominations for the 2026 edition will be revealed on March 29 during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels, hosted by actor Chiemezie Imo.

The AMVCA continues to serve as a key platform for showcasing African talent, celebrating creativity, and promoting cultural expression across the continent.
