The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its 8th national convention in Abuja, reaffirming Nentawe Yilwatda as national chairman and Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru as national secretary, alongside the emergence of a new National Working Committee (NWC).

The convention, held at the Eagle Square, brought together party delegates, top government officials and stakeholders from across the country. The new NWC members were produced through a consensus arrangement endorsed by key leaders of the ruling party.

In his acceptance speech, Nentawe Yilwatda described his re-election as a renewed call to service and pledged to strengthen unity within the APC.

“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said, assuring members that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in delivering on its mandate.

Ajibola Basiru was also reaffirmed as national secretary, maintaining continuity in the party’s administrative structure.

Nwoye Emerges as Deputy National Chairman (South)

A notable development at the convention was the emergence of Benjamin Obi Nwoye as deputy national chairman (south), replacing Emma Eneukwu.

Party sources indicated that Nwoye’s emergence followed extensive consultations and zoning considerations among party stakeholders. Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State, was said to have played a significant role in facilitating consensus around Nwoye’s inclusion in the NWC.

The convention was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, members of the National Assembly and other prominent party leaders, underscoring the significance of the gathering in shaping the party’s direction ahead of future political contests.
