The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of Individual Annual Tax Returns, shifting the deadline from April 1 to April 14, 2026.

The extension was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, who noted that the statutory deadline for filing individual annual tax returns remains March 31 each year.

To him, the decision to extend the timeline was taken to give taxpayers additional time to accurately complete and submit their returns.

Dr. Subair emphasized that filing annual income tax returns is a legal obligation and urged individuals to make timely compliance a routine personal responsibility. He stressed that adherence to tax regulations plays a critical role in supporting the Lagos State Government’s capacity to deliver infrastructure and social services to residents.

Reiterating the Service’s commitment to digital tax administration, the LIRS boss stated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved channel for submitting annual returns.

He explained that manual submissions have been completely phased out, making it mandatory for taxpayers to file exclusively through the official eTax portal.

Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible round the clock, Dr. Subair advised taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered when filing to avoid processing delays or compliance issues.

He further encouraged taxpayers who may require assistance to visit any LIRS office across the state or reach out to the Service through its designated communication channels for guidance.

The extension is expected to ease last-minute pressure on taxpayers while reinforcing the importance of voluntary compliance within the state’s tax system
