A woman identified as Diamond Princess Obi has publicly accused the family of former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel of subjecting her to years of emotional distress and mistreatment, as she announced plans to end her marriage to Tony Obi , Mikel’s brother, after nearly two decades together.

In an emotional video shared on social media, Diamond Princess said she had been attempting to formalise a divorce after what she described as 18 years of suffering within the Obi family. She alleged that throughout her marriage, she faced persistent hostility and mistreatment from both her husband and several members of his family, experiences she said had left deep emotional scars.

According to Diamond Princess, the incident that finally prompted her to go public occurred during a condolence visit following the reported death of John Obi Mikel’s sister, Chioma Obi. She alleged that during the visit, she and her children were physically pushed and publicly humiliated by family members, treatment she described as deeply painful, particularly given the solemnity of the occasion.

“I have done nothing to deserve what they have done to me,” she said in the video, adding that she had endured “hell” throughout the marriage. She called on the Obi family to publicly explain what she had done to warrant what she characterised as years of rejection, insults, and abuse.

Diamond Princess also indicated she intended to share her full story publicly so other women could draw lessons from her experience, offering a direct advisory to women in similar situations to carefully weigh the dynamics of a partner’s family before committing to a long-term relationship.

She maintained that she is now focused on healing and moving forward but emphasised that she is seeking justice and accountability for the treatment she says she endured. “I want my name cleared,” she said.

Neither the Obi family nor representatives of John Obi Mikel had responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report. The allegations are one-sided at this stage, and no independent verification of the specific claims has been possible. Diamond Princess is yet to provide further details on the formal divorce proceedings she says are underway.
