Abia lawmaker set for arraignment for alleged assault on Bolt driver

The Abia State lawmaker, accused of assaulting Abuja Bolt driver Alex Ikwechegh, is set to appear before the Kuje Magistrate Court today, Wednesday, at 12 noon.

The case has garnered significant attention following the release of a viral video showing the lawmaker physically attacking the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a delivery on October 27 at the lawmaker’s residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

The investigation and prosecution are being managed by the Special Investigation Unit of the Inspector General of Police, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations. This case has sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians, who have taken to social media to express their condemnation of the lawmaker’s actions.

In light of the public backlash, the lawmaker has publicly apologized and stated his intention to cooperate fully with the police inquiry. He also mentioned that he is seeking counseling to address his behavior.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, representing the victim, commented on the situation, saying, “We are on our way to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honourable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Steven, a Bolt driver.

The IGP’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is in charge of the investigation and prosecution. The media is invited to cover the arraignment, which is scheduled for 12 pm today at Kuje Magistrate.”

As the arraignment approaches, many eyes will be on the court proceedings, eager to see the outcome of this highly publicized case.
