The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is bracing for potential movement disruptions today, Friday, July 11, 2025, as members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and supporters of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, are scheduled to hold a planned procession.

The event, commemorating Ashura – a significant observance in the Shia Islamic calendar marking the martyrdom of Imam Husain – has been assigned a ‘Medium’ risk rating by the security team.

The procession is expected to impact key areas within the FCT, including the Central Business District, Unity Fountain, Wuse, and Berger Roundabout.

Authorities anticipate increased vehicular traffic, large crowd gatherings, and a heightened security presence in these locations as a result of the planned event.

In light of the potential disruptions, an advisory has been issued urging the public to take precautions:

  • Avoid identified procession routes and large gatherings.
  • Limit non-essential movement within the FCT during peak procession hours (12:30 PM – 4:00 PM WAT).
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness and follow updates from official channels.
