LAGOS – The bustling city of Lagos witnessed an emotional and grand farewell as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abayomi Faniyi, the Area Commander of Area G,  retires after a 35-year career in the Nigeria Police Force, receiving encomium from dignitaries, including traditional rulers, community leaders, Government officials,  Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and well-wishers who gathered to honor a man who dedicated decades to law enforcement.

ACP Abayomi Faniyi’s retirement was marked by accolades, testimonials, and heartfelt tributes from colleagues and subordinates, recognizing his years of unwavering service, professionalism, and dedication to security and public safety in Lagos State and beyond.

A Career of Dedication and Excellence

ACP Abayomi Faniyi, known for his diligence and commitment to justice, began his career in the Nigeria Police Force over three decades ago. Rising through the ranks with a stellar record, he served in various capacities before being appointed as the Area Commander of Area G, Lagos, a role in which he significantly contributed to crime reduction and community policing.

Under his leadership, Area G became a model for effective policing, with notable achievements in curbing criminal activities, fostering police-community relations, and implementing crime-prevention strategies. His tenure saw a significant drop in armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes within his jurisdiction.

A Grand Farewell Ceremony

The retirement ceremony, held at Exellecnce Hotel , Ogba Lagos , was a fitting tribute to ACP Faniyi’s illustrious career. The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, top security officials, traditional rulers, and representatives of various security agencies. Officers who served under his command expressed their admiration, recalling his leadership style, mentorship, and unwavering support for his colleagues.

Dr. Jide Johnson a Senior lecturer at Nigeria institute of Journalism (NIJ), also praised ACP Faniyi’s Rtd contributions, particularly his efforts in bridging the gap between the police and residents. “He was not just a police officer; he was a guardian of our communities. His open-door policy and proactive approach to security gave us confidence in the police force,” he remarked.

Emotional Farewell from Colleagues and Family

The ceremony was not without emotions, as ACP Faniyi took the stage to give his farewell speech. Reflecting on his journey, he expressed gratitude to his colleagues, family, and the community for their support throughout his career. “Serving in the Nigeria Police Force has been an honor. Hammad Idowu Tijani, Executive Chairman Ojokoro Local Council Development Area shared touching moments about how he managed the Fagba Roundabout crisis and brought relative peace to the community with his open door policy. “Though we missed him on many occasions due to the nature of his job, we are incredibly proud of his service to the nation,” he said.
