Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of three major infrastructure projects in Lagos State, aimed at boosting mobility, enhancing land administration, and strengthening public service delivery.

The projects commissioned include the Ojora-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex.

In a statement, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and governance across the state.

Sanwo-Olu described the Ojora-Opebi Link Bridge as a strategic intervention along one of the busiest transport corridors in Lagos. According to him, the bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve the daily commuting experience of residents and motorists.

He also highlighted the importance of the newly completed LAGIS building, noting that it would modernise land administration processes in the state.

“The LAGIS facility will enhance transparency and efficiency in land administration by eliminating manual, paper-based processes and introducing more digitised systems,” the governor said.

On the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, Sanwo-Olu explained that the facility would centralise key government services, improve inter-agency coordination, and provide a conducive working environment for public servants.

“With just over 400 days left in this administration, we remain focused on making every day count,” the statement read. “Out of the 2,922 days Lagosians entrusted to us, we have spent more than 2,500 working to leave Lagos better than we met it.”

The governor expressed appreciation to engineers, contractors, and civil servants who contributed to the successful delivery of the projects, reiterating that his administration would continue to prioritise initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents.

Meanwhile, the Presidency clarified why President Tinubu was absent from the inauguration despite being in Lagos.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, confirmed that the president is currently in Lagos but has been preoccupied with critical state matters, particularly security.

“President Tinubu is in Lagos. Beyond the pictures, the president has been very busy with state matters,” Dare said.

He explained that over the past 10 days, following recent developments in Jos, the president has been receiving constant security briefings from the intelligence community and prioritising national security concerns.

“He is in Lagos monitoring developments, working with the intelligence community, and taking constant security briefs,” Dare added.

Earlier, the Lagos State Government had announced partial road closures in parts of the state to facilitate the inauguration ceremonies. Tinubu was initially scheduled to personally inaugurate the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday, as well as the Tolu Schools Complex located in the Ajegunle area.

The president arrived in Lagos on April 2 from Plateau State, where he had visited Jos following killings in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area.

On April 4, he travelled to Ogun State to inaugurate the Gateway Cargo Airport and the Nigeria Customs Service hub before returning to Lagos the same day.
