Akpabio mourns Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo, calls his passing ‘The End of an Era’

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described the demise of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, the revered leader of Afenifere, as the end of an era in Nigeria’s political and socio-cultural history.

In a personally signed statement made available to newsmen, Akpabio expressed profound sadness over the passing of the elder statesman, who dedicated his life to the pursuit of truth, equity, and justice.

Reflecting on Adebanjo’s remarkable legacy, Akpabio stated: “Pa Adebanjo’s glorious exit at the age of 96 marks the end of an era. As a people, we mourn the loss of a selfless patriot who devoted his life to fighting for justice, equity, and fairness in Nigeria.”

He emphasized that the late Afenifere leader’s unwavering commitment to democratic ideals, good governance, and the betterment of Nigeria had left an indelible mark on the nation’s history.

“His leadership and vision inspired generations, and his legacy will continue to serve as a beacon of hope for all who seek a just and equitable society,” Akpabio added.

On behalf of his family, the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, and the Nigerian Senate, Akpabio extended his deepest condolences to: Pa Adebanjo’s wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, the entire Afenifere family, the government and people of Ogun State.

He prayed for divine strength and comfort for the family, urging them to take solace in the rich legacy of service and sacrifice that Pa Adebanjo left behind.

“May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May Pa Adebanjo’s soul rest in perfect peace.”

Pa Ayo Adebanjo was a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio political landscape, known for his fearless advocacy, principled stance on national issues, and deep-rooted commitment to the progress of the Yoruba people and Nigeria as a whole.

His passing marks the loss of one of the last icons of Nigeria’s first republic nationalists and democracy defenders.
