A public affairs analyst, Dr. Ile Joseph, has raised serious concerns over what he described as a disturbing escalation of terrorist attacks and targeted killings of Christians across the country, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, Joseph said Nigerians have endured years of severe insecurity with “remarkable patience,” even as the situation continues to deteriorate.

He warned that the sustained wave of violence demands urgent and decisive action from the Federal Government.

Joseph, who is also a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “rise to the challenge” and fulfil his constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.

According to him, if the President is unable to effectively address the worsening insecurity, “he should consider resignation in the interest of the nation.”

The analyst further urged the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to convene a National Emergency Conference, describing the current pattern of killings as an “ongoing genocidal assault” that requires immediate collective response from Christian leaders nationwide.

He stressed the need for the Christian community to adopt a firmer stand in safeguarding vulnerable groups, fostering peacebuilding initiatives, and supporting victims of violent attacks through coordinated humanitarian interventions.

Joseph emphasized that national security remains the bedrock of economic stability, youth development, investor confidence, and national unity.

He cautioned that without swift, practical intervention from government and key stakeholders, the consequences could become “far more catastrophic for the nation.”

“No society can prosper in an atmosphere of fear and instability,” he noted, adding that rebuilding trust in Nigeria’s security institutions has become both urgent and essential to the country’s future.
