The Court of Appeal located in Abuja has made a significant decision to annul the election of Musiliu Akinsanya, who is commonly known by his nickname MC Oluomo, as the national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, often referred to as NURTW. This decision has put a halt to MC Oluomo’s leadership following the recent election.
MC Oluomo was elected to his new position during a significant delegate conference that occurred last Saturday. This important meeting was held at the zonal secretariat of the union, which is located in Osogbo, a city in Osun State. The conference was a crucial event for the union, as it brought together various delegates from different regions to participate in the voting process. These delegates were there to weigh in on the leadership of the union by casting their votes and ultimately electing their new leaders. This process not only reflects the democratic principles of the organization but also ensures that the voices of the members are heard and represented in the decision-making of their union.
However, the Appeal Court has confirmed that the leadership of Baruwa continues to hold legitimacy as the rightful president of the union. This conclusion was reached based on a court document that was reviewed by our correspondent, indicating that the court found grounds to support Baruwa’s position and declared the recent election results invalid.

The court papers show that the appellate court in a unanimous judgement delivered by the trio of Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Justice Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba and Justice Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi on November 8, held the March 11, 2024 ruling of the National Industrial Court, Abuja, affirming the re-election of Tajudeen Baruwa as the national president of the union.
The three Appeal Court judges dismissed the appellants appeal and awarded a cost of N100,000 against them.
