Suspected armed robbers trailed a man from a third-generation bank in Niger State on Friday afternoon, intercepting him on a busy road and making away with over ₦10 million in cash and his Toyota Camry in a bold daylight robbery.

The incident occurred on Friday after the victim was said to have received payment from a client. The robbers overtook the man on Shiroro Road in Minna, seized the money, and also made away with his Toyota Camry.

In a striking twist, the assailants abandoned their own Toyota Corolla at the scene of the robbery and fled with the victim’s Camry. It was further learnt that the victim recovered one of the rifles used by the robbers during the attack.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the robbery later on Friday. Police Command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident, adding that the police recovered the rifle and the vehicle abandoned by the suspects, and that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing robbers.

In a statement, Abiodun said: “On March 6, 2026, at about 3 pm, suspected armed robbers attacked a Toyota Camry reportedly trailed from a bank to Shiroro Road.”

Friday’s robbery is the latest in a series of similar incidents in Minna in recent months, raising concerns about the safety of individuals making significant cash withdrawals or collections from financial institutions in the Niger State capital.

In September 2025, a four-man gang trailed an unsuspecting bank customer from his bank branch in Minna and dispossessed him of an undisclosed sum of money, intercepting his Mercedes Benz vehicle near the Old City Gate area. The Niger State Police Command, led by Commissioner Adamu Elleman, had directed tactical teams to track down the culprits in that case.

Security experts and law enforcement officials have repeatedly warned members of the public to exercise caution following significant cash transactions at banks, urging them to avoid predictable travel patterns and to report suspicious vehicles or individuals to the nearest police station.

The Niger State Police Command has not yet made any arrests in connection with Friday’s attack. The investigation is ongoing.
