The first quarter-final pairing of the UEFA Champions League has been confirmed, with Arsenal F.C. set to take on Sporting CP in what promises to be a thrilling last-eight encounter.

Sporting booked their place in dramatic fashion after overturning a heavy first-leg deficit against FK Bodø/Glimt.

The Portuguese champions had suffered a 3–0 defeat in Norway, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the return leg. However, backed by a passionate home crowd in Lisbon, Sporting delivered a sensational performance, winning 3–0 in regulation time to level the aggregate score and force extra time.

They completed the turnaround emphatically, scoring twice more in the additional period to seal a remarkable 5–0 victory on the night and advance to the quarter-finals.

Maximiliano Araújo and Rafael Nel were the heroes of the night, each netting twice to power Sporting into the next round.

Arsenal, meanwhile, secured their spot in the last eight with a composed two-legged performance against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The first leg in Germany ended 1–1, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the return match at the Emirates Stadium. But the Gunners took control on home soil, winning 2–0 to progress comfortably on aggregate.

Both clubs will discover their opponents following the conclusion of Wednesday’s remaining round-of-16 fixtures.

The Arsenal-Sporting tie sets the stage for a fascinating battle between Premier League power and Portuguese champions, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
