Atlético Madrid have reached a full agreement with Atalanta for the signing of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman in a deal worth up to €40 million.

The Spanish giants will pay a fixed fee of €35 million, with an additional €5 million structured as performance-related add-ons, bringing the total package to €40 million.

The agreement was finalised after Lookman made a decisive choice to join Atlético Madrid, turning down interest from Turkish club Fenerbahçe late on Saturday night.

Following the breakthrough in negotiations, Lookman has also agreed personal terms with Atlético Madrid on a long-term contract.

The club is now making arrangements for his travel to Spain and the completion of medical examinations ahead of an official unveiling.

The 28-year-old attacker recently returned to Atalanta after representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Lookman was one of the standout performers of the tournament, finishing among the highest goal scorers and playing a key role in the Super Eagles’ campaign.

His impressive AFCON display, combined with his consistent performances for Atalanta in Serie A, significantly boosted interest in his services across Europe.

Atlético Madrid see Lookman as a major attacking reinforcement as they strengthen their squad for domestic and continental challenges.

The move marks a major step in Lookman’s career and further underlines the growing influence of Nigerian players at the top level of European football.
