Bandits invade Ogun, kidnap university staff, student, others

Bandits on Sunday invaded some tertiary institutions which include Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, kidnapping one staff, one student and two other persons. The Ogun State Police Command was said to have confirmed the attack on the higher institutions.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was said to have revealed that the kidnapped victims include the Deputy Director of Information Communication Technology of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Mrs. Lateefat Abimbola; a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Toyinbo Olayinka, and two other persons whose identities were not disclosed.

The PPRO disclosed that police personnel and a tactical squad of the Command have been deployed for timely and safe rescue operations of the victims. They were said to have commenced search operations in the neighbouring bushes.

“Our operatives have started combing the bushes to ensure the victims are released while the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the PPRO had disclosed in a statement.

It was narrated that Mrs. Abimbola was kidnapped in Ijebu-Ode last Thursday, and Olayinka, a 400- level student of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, was kidnapped last Saturday at a private farm at Abule-Itoko, Abeokuta-Ibadan Road, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State.

It was revealed that other kidnappings occurred between last Thursday and Saturday at different locations. The victims were ordered to get their families cough out ₦150 million ransom before regaining freedom.
