Bandits kill 12 in Kaduna, abduct travelers in Ekiti

Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Sunday killed at least 12 persons during an attack on Peigyim village, Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna State.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday, said two persons were also injured in the attack.

He listed the deceased as Philbia Yusuf, Suzanna Ezekiel, Rahib Alex, Ishaku Bamaiyi, Deborah Ishaku, Tinat Bamaiyi, Zichat Kefas, Sunday Daniel, Hauwa Gabriel, Fidelia Samson, Sadia Donald, and Goodness Kefas.

“The Governor sent his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims killed in the mindless and gruesome attack, and prayed for the repose of their souls.

“The Governor wished the injured residents a quick recovery. Security agencies are poised to sustain patrols in the area as investigations into the incident progress.”

Meanwhile in a related development, Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted at least four persons travelling in two buses in Ekiti State on Monday.

The spokesman of the state police command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said the travellers were abducted along the Ayetoro Ekiti – Otun Ekiti Road in Moba local government area of the state.

He said the whereabouts of 32 other passengers had not been ascertained.

Abutu said police operatives are on the trail of the hoodlums in a bid to rescue the victims.

He said: “It is true there was a kidnap on Monday morning along that axis.

“We heard the information and we have deployed our personnel there. It began on Sunday evening when some suspected robbers attacked a man who the police thereafter rescued.

“But this morning, we learnt that the suspects were the ones who abducted some road users. The police operatives are on their trail.”
