A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has warned that the party’s upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will take decisive actions against members found to be undermining the party’s unity and interests.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, George addressed ongoing tensions within the PDP and dismissed insinuations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, wields unchecked influence within the party.

According to the PDP elder statesman, the NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, will be a defining moment for the opposition party, which has been grappling with internal divisions and power struggles.

“Nyesom Wike does not own the PDP; he joined the party like the rest of us,” George stated firmly. “The PDP is not like the APC that is allegedly controlled by a single individual. Our party belongs to the people, and no one is above its constitution or discipline.”

George further noted that the NEC meeting will be used to restore order and discipline within the party ranks. “If anyone thinks they can undermine the party because of their influence or wealth, let them wait for the NEC. We will address every instance of betrayal. Some have committed political ‘hara-kiri’, and there will be consequences,” he warned.

His comments come amid a cloud of confusion surrounding the 100th NEC meeting. Earlier in the week, rumours had circulated about a possible postponement and the reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.

However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) promptly debunked both claims, reaffirming that the meeting would go ahead as planned and clarifying that no such reinstatement had taken place.

The Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Umar Damagum, had on Wednesday addressed a press briefing to reinforce the NWC’s position and call for party unity.
