The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for 2026 has been postponed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), according to an official announcement released on Thursday.

CAF confirmed on its website that the continental women’s football tournament, which was originally planned to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026, will now be held later in the year. The competition has been rescheduled for 25 July to 16 August 2026.

In its statement, the African football governing body explained that the decision was taken to ensure the successful organisation of the tournament. CAF cited unforeseen circumstances as the primary reason for shifting the dates, though the body did not provide specific details regarding the challenges that prompted the adjustment.

The Nigeria women’s national football team, popularly known as the Super Falcons, are the defending champions of the competition.

Nigeria secured the title during the previous edition of the tournament, which was also hosted by Morocco.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is Africa’s premier women’s football competition and serves as a key platform for showcasing talent across the continent while also contributing to qualification pathways for major global tournaments.

With the new dates now confirmed, participating teams and organisers are expected to adjust their preparations ahead of the rescheduled championship later this year.
