In a startling development, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State and current Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has issued an urgent public disclaimer following the hacking of his WhatsApp number by fraudsters.
According to a statement released by his media office, cybercriminals have gained unauthorized access to Mr. Shaibu’s WhatsApp account and are actively impersonating him to deceive unsuspecting individuals. The scammers are reportedly soliciting financial assistance, offering fake job opportunities, and promising fictitious government contracts, all in a calculated effort to defraud members of the public.
“Let it be made abundantly clear that I will NEVER request money, offer jobs, or award contracts through WhatsApp or any similar platform,” Shaibu firmly stated.
The former Deputy Governor emphasized that he does not conduct recruitment, does not engage in contract allocations, and would never demand any form of payment for such purposes. The messages currently in circulation are entirely false, and the public is warned not to engage with them under any circumstance.
