The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos chapter, has announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike over what it described as “amputated” salaries paid to its members by the university management.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency congress of the union held on Tuesday.
The communiqué was jointly signed by the branch chairperson, Idou Kehinde, and the secretary, Adesina Arikawe.
According to the union, the strike action was necessitated by the payment of incomplete salaries to lecturers for the months of January and February 2026, a development it said had caused widespread concern and hardship among its members.

ASUU described the salaries received during the period as “amputated,” accusing the university management of failing to address the issue despite several complaints and engagements.
The union therefore resolved that its members would withdraw their services indefinitely starting from Wednesday until the management of the university meets its demands and resolves the salary discrepancies.
ASUU maintained that the industrial action was necessary to compel the authorities to correct the situation and ensure that lecturers receive their full entitlements.
The development is expected to disrupt academic activities at the university if the dispute is not resolved quickly, as lecturers across faculties are expected to comply with the directive.
Further details on the strike and the union’s demands are expected to emerge as discussions between the union and the university management continue.
