Popular Nigerian comedian and social media influencer, Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggy, has been hospitalised after he was allegedly shot while filming a comedy skit in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
Sources said the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon beneath the Sango-Ota bridge, where the entertainer was reportedly shooting a skit alongside members of his production crew.
The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, as conflicting accounts continue to emerge.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, disclosed that the content creator sustained the gunshot injury during the filming process.
According to the source, Broda Shaggy was immediately evacuated from the scene and rushed to a private medical facility in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where he received initial treatment.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We don’t have details on how it happened yet, but his crew members who were present quickly rushed him to the hospital,” the source said.
Medical personnel at the hospital reportedly administered first aid upon his arrival before determining that he required more specialised care.
Further findings indicated that the comedian was later referred to a hospital in Ikeja Government Residential Area, also in Lagos, where he is currently said to be recuperating.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the police were alerted after the medical facility reported the admission of a gunshot victim.
According to her, detectives and a patrol team were promptly deployed to the hospital, where they discovered that the injured person was the popular skit maker.
“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to their facility. Officers visited and found him on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. The incident reportedly occurred in Sango-Ota, which is outside our jurisdiction, but the matter is being looked into,” she said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident had not been formally reported to the police authorities in Ogun State at the time of inquiry.
“The incident was alleged to have occurred in Ogun State, but it has not been officially reported to us,” he noted.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from Broda Shaggy’s management proved unsuccessful.
His manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, did not respond to phone calls, and a text message sent to him had not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.
As investigations continue, fans and well-wishers have expressed concern over the comedian’s condition while awaiting an official statement from his team.
