Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has congratulated the Mambas on qualifying for the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and announced a special bonus if they defeat Nigeria.

Despite finishing third in Group F following a 2-1 loss to Cameroon, the Mambas secured a spot in the knockout stage and will face one of the tournament’s strongest teams, Nigeria.

In a message to the players and coaching staff on Thursday, President Chapo praised their performance as unprecedented and a source of national pride.

He commended the team’s courage, discipline, and determination for reaching this significant milestone on the continental stage.

To motivate the squad, the president declared an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais (around N11.3 million) for each player and coaching staff member if they overcome the Super Eagles to advance to the quarter-finals, according to Jornal Notícias.

President Chapo expressed full national support and confidence in the team’s ability to triumph over Nigeria. The crucial match will take place at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with kickoff scheduled for 8 pm.
