China to crack down harder on illegal social organisations

China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs and 21 other departments on Monday jointly issued a circular, requiring further efforts to crack down harder on and rectify illegal social organisations.

The circular demands that companies and public institutions shall not collude with such organisations to carry out illegal activities or provide convenience for their activities.

Internet enterprises were asked to tighten identity verification of their users as well as check and manage information released on online platforms more strictly.

They were also prohibited from providing services for illegal social organisations to carry out activities on the Internet, according to the circular.

The circular also lifted corresponding requirements for news media, public transportation and public venues in the crackdown on illegal social organisations.
