Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of Hon. Farook Adeniyi Akintunde as Special Adviser on the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), with immediate effect, in a move aimed at strengthening environmental governance and sanitation management across the state.

Announcing the appointment, the governor congratulated the new Special Adviser and urged him to leverage his experience in the environmental sector over the past five years to reposition OGWAMA for improved operational efficiency.
Abiodun underscored the critical role of efficient waste collection, disposal and recycling in achieving his administration’s vision of a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Ogun State.
He charged Akintunde to provide strategic leadership that would not only improve service delivery but also align the Authority’s operations with global best practices in waste management.
The governor noted that effective waste management remains central to public health, environmental protection and economic development, adding that the state government is committed to policies that promote sustainability and climate resilience.

Also reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, congratulated Akintunde and assured him of the full support of the Ministry.
He explained that as the parent ministry supervising OGWAMA, the Ministry of Environment would provide the institutional backing and collaboration necessary for the new leadership to succeed.
Oresanya reiterated the administration’s resolve to maintain a clean and safe environment, stressing that robust waste management systems are indispensable to sustainable urban growth and improved quality of life.
In his acceptance remarks, Akintunde expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to work diligently to enhance the Authority’s operational efficiency and deepen engagement with residents and stakeholders across the state.
He called on the management and staff of OGWAMA to cooperate fully in driving reforms that would elevate the Authority’s performance and position it as a model for waste management in Nigeria.
Akintunde added that through teamwork, innovation and accountability, the Authority would deliver services that residents of Ogun State would be proud of, while contributing meaningfully to the state’s environmental sustainability goals.
