Delta 2023: Oborevwori dedicates victory at Supreme Court to God

The Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, lSheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori on has dedicated his victory in the legal tussle for the state’s 2023 governorship ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to God and the people of the State.

The Supreme Court had on Friday declared that Oborevwori was validly elected as the candidate of the PDP while dismissing a suit filed by a chieftain of the party, David Edvibie challenging his candidacy.

The apex court affirmed the decision of court of appeal which nullified the judgment of the lower court voiding Oborevwori candidacy.

While reacting to the apex court decision, Oborevwori in a a statement he signed personally, described his victory as divine.

He also expressed gratitude to Deltans for their unflinching support and prayers and promised not to take their show of love for granted.

Quoting Psalms 126: 1-3 “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad” the Speaker said the judiciary has again proved that it is indeed the last hope of the common man.

He commended the panel of Justices of the Supreme Court ‘for their rare courage and for standing by the truth’.

He thanked the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other great party leaders for their steadfastness and support for his nomination as the gubernatorial flag bearer of the party for Delta State.

He also profusely thanked the leader of the PDP in Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who is also the Governor of the State, and who refused to sacrifice him in the midst of all the pressure

Oborevwori also thank the Governor’s wife, who, according to him, has been on her kneels praying earnestly for his victory, the State Chairman of the Party and all party leaders for their unwavering support since he emerged the Party flagbearer on Wednesday, 25th May, 2022.

The Speaker also thanked his colleagues for standing by him throughout the journey from the Federal High Court all the way to the Supreme Court.

“I am grateful to all the support groups made up of women, youths and several stakeholders for believing in the course and for standing firm by the mandate.

He lauded them for their sacrifice in travelling all the way to Abuja to witness the landmark judgment on Friday, October 21st, 2022 in spite of the challenges occasioned by the flood on the Abuja road and the high cost of airfare.

Oborevwori also thanked his legal team for their firepower and rising to the occasion when it mattered most.

In his words also; “At the end of it all, there is no victor and no vanquished. I enjoin all PDP faithful to put the past behind and work for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections. Together we can do more and achieve more to Advance Delta State to a newer level.”
