‘DMW didn’t give me money,’ Dremo opens up on working with Davido

Nigerian rapper Dremo has spoken candidly about his experience with DMW, revealing that the label did not provide him with direct financial support during his time there.

In an interview with Echo Room, the artiste explained that the label’s structure largely revolved around its founder, Davido, leaving limited opportunities for other signees to fully thrive.

According to Dremo, the label functioned more as a platform for exposure rather than a source of funding or structured artist development.

“The label didn’t give me money. It was more like a platform. I didn’t get what I wanted from it,” he said.

He also noted the lack of collaboration among label mates at the time, revealing that he never worked with fellow rapper Idowest despite being under the same imprint.

“We were all trying to stay afloat in the industry. Even as a label, we didn’t really collaborate much. We never had a collective album,” he added.

Reflecting on the experience, Dremo said it ultimately influenced his decision to pursue an independent career path, allowing him greater control over his music and direction.
