The Edo State government has refuted circulating rumors claiming that the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, dismissed the stay of execution related to the reinstatement of the impeached Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

In a statement released on September 24, 2024, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, called the rumors “completely false” and urged the public to disregard them.

Nehikhare clarified that the motion for stay of execution remains in effect and is now under the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal.

He explained that the Record of Appeal has been transferred to the Court of Appeal, and a new motion for stay of execution has been filed there. The Federal High Court no longer has jurisdiction over the matter.

Nehikhare warned that the false reports are attempts by “mischief makers” to create unrest in the state and urged citizens to remain calm and focus on their daily activities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the continued progress of Edo State.
