Ekweremadu’s ailing daughter reveals why she can’t receive kidney donation from her family

Sonia Ekweremadu, ailing daughter of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has finally broken her silence, months after her parents were arrested by the British Police on allegations of human trafficking and organ harvesting that violates the country’s modern slavery act.

It would be recalled that the embattled lawmaker, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice were arrested by the London Metropolitan police on the 23rd of June, 2022 for allegedly conspiring to bring a child to the United Kingdom for alleged organ harvesting.

Beatrice Ekweremadu was however granted bail by a London Court in July while her husband was denied bail. While the case is still in court, the ailing daughter, Sonia Ekweremadu of the lawmaker has come out publicly for the first time to speak about it.  

According to Instablog9ja, Sonia disclosed that she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease known as Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) Nephrotic Syndrome in 2019.

Reason why she can’t receive kidney donation from family members

She explained that medical examination shows that her case of nephritic syndrome is a genetic illness. Hence, the illness would likely reoccur if she receives kidney donation from any of her family members.

She disclosed that she dropped out of her post-graduate studies at the University of Newcastle after the diagnosis. Since then, she said she has been taken to various hospitals but her illness persisted and kept degenerating.

“I dropped out of my post graduate studies at the University of Newcastle in 2019 when I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome. My family has battled to save my life and has taken me to various hospitals, but the illness persisted and kept degenerating.”

“I am alive today by the special grace of God. I am presently in London, UK, receiving 5 Hours of dialysis 3-4 times a week. This is at the expense of my family as I am not qualified for NHS due to my immigration status.” –she said.

She added that her ailment, coupled with the legal crisis her family is battling have made the last three years very challenging for her family.
