Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has characterized political conflicts as largely performative, stating that disagreements among politicians serve more as entertainment for Nigerians rather than genuine hostility.
Speaking during his 60th birthday thanksgiving service at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Isan Ekiti, on Sunday, Fayemi dismissed the perception of deep-seated political animosities, particularly those fueled by social media.
“So, all these things you read on social media are for your entertainment,” Fayemi remarked. “Many will wonder why Governor Segun Oni is here.
During his birthday, I spent the entire day with him. Governor Ayodele Fayose, too, would have been here without hesitation if he was around.”
The former Minister of Solid Minerals emphasized that despite their political differences, Ekiti politicians are not adversaries.

“The vision we have always had is a state that will not be separated by political divides. We might belong to different political parties, but there is one party that we all belong to—the Ekiti Party, the Ekiti Progressive Party—and our governor is carrying on with that vision,” he stated.
Fayemi’s comments come at a time of heightened political discourse in Nigeria, where social media often amplifies partisan disputes.
His remarks highlight the need for unity and collaboration among political leaders in Ekiti State, underscoring that governance should transcend party affiliations for the collective progress of the people.
The event was attended by dignitaries and political figures across party lines, further reinforcing his message of solidarity and shared commitment to the development of Ekiti State.
