The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s top priority in 2026 is to deliver reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity across the country.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji.
According to the statement, Adelabu gave the assurance in his New Year message to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State.
The minister said the government’s focus remains firm on powering homes, industries and economic growth through improved electricity supply.
He explained that efforts in the new year would be driven by continuity and renewed vigour, with emphasis on enhancing grid stability and expanding transmission infrastructure.
Adelabu noted that collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies would be strengthened to improve service delivery and ensure that metering initiatives reach communities nationwide.
He added that the Light Up Nigeria initiative would remain a key priority, targeting industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to boost job creation and economic development.
He also disclosed that renewable energy development, particularly solar and hydropower, would be intensified to serve underserved and rural communities.
Reflecting on 2025, the minister described the year as one of focused groundwork and steady progress despite challenges in the power sector.
He said improvements were recorded in strengthening the national grid, adding that the Presidential Power Initiative, also known as the Siemens deal, had helped reduce frequent grid collapses.
Adelabu thanked Nigerians for their resilience and support, stressing that collective effort was essential to building a robust energy future. He urged citizens to protect power infrastructure and adopt energy-efficient practices.
