Flood: Ogun takes delivery of relief materials from NEMA

The Ogun State Government has taken delivery of relief materials which include, food and non-food items such as rice, beans, garri, maize, clothes, insecticidal nets, among others from the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to give succour to those who suffered widespread flood and various disasters.

Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon.  Oluwafemi Ilori-Oduntan, while receiving the items at the Agro-Services Corporation, Asero, Abeokuta on behalf of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, assured that the relief items would be distributed to the 20 Local Government Areas.

“Various disasters have resulted in loss of lives, displacement, loss of means of livelihoods and socio-economic dislocation, hence the need for the delivery of these relief materials and the State government will ensure even distribution to the victims”, she said.

Ilori-Oduntan, in a statement signed by the Press Officer, Ogun State Emergency Management Agency, (OGUNSEMA), Mr. Segunmaru Adebayo, stated that the present administration has consolidated on the capacities of the 20 Local Government Areas, to allow them implement and take disaster risk strategies to the grassroots in line with global best practices.

On his part, the Director-General, NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, represented by the Director, Special Duties in the Agency, Dr. Bandele Onimode said the intervention was a demonstration of the Federal Government’s concern about the welfare and wellbeing of the people.

Speaking earlier, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Dr. Olurotimi Akinlesi, represented by the Director, Maintenance and Infrastructure, Engr. Olakunle Olaniran appreciated the Federal Government for impacting positively in the lives of the people.

Also speaking, Director of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mr.  Olufolarin Ige advised the people to always be cautious of their safety, emphasising the importance of keeping a clean environment.
