Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and current senator representing Sokoto South in the Nigerian Senate, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter dated March 11 and addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri, Tambuwal cited the “persistent internal crisis” and “ongoing conflicts” within the PDP as the primary reasons for his departure.

He further announced that he would be joining the newly registered African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his decision as the result of “deep reflection” and “extensive consultations.”

“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” the letter stated. “The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”

Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded him to serve Nigeria in different capacities.

He explained that his move was guided by his conviction that Nigeria requires “a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.”

Reaffirming his dedication to public service, Tambuwal emphasized his continued commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and national unity, signaling that his shift to the ADC aligns with his vision for Nigeria’s political future.

Political observers note that Tambuwal’s defection could reshape party dynamics in Sokoto State and add momentum to the ADC’s presence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
