Once the country is a bit closer to the next presidential election, there are some top politicians who would think deeply and find their ways to the PDP. There would be preparations and every top politician will look for ways to stay relevant in the political arena.

Dave Umahi

Mr. Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, would most likely find his way to the PDP. He left the party in November, 2020 at a time the PDP really needed him. His argument was that the PDP had not done what it should to make the Igbo people have a taste of power. Mr. Dave Umahi must be nursing some big ambition which would revolve round the 2023 presidency.

Before the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo State, Mr. Dave Umahi said that God should provide another leader that would be like Muhammadu Buhari. His words indicated that he really wanted to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari and he would need the ticket of the APC for the race.

After Buhari’s crucial visit to Imo State, the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, began to have doubt about the Igbo presidency. And his misgiving would go a long way to convince Dave Umahi to return to the PDP.

Rotimi Amaechi

Mr. Rotimi Amaechi may also consider a possible defection to his former political camp. He rose to big prominence through the PDP. He was the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and he later became the state governor on the platform of the PDP. But he left the PDP before the 2015 polls.

He has made some progress at the national level, but he can’t lead the APC to claim Rivers State. That means the political party won’t consider him for a greater office in 2023. Though he led the APC to win the 2015 and the 2019 presidential elections, he has not made much progress at the Rivers State chapter of the APC. If he wants to gain momentum, he will need to return to the PDP and the party may welcome him back home.

Dimeji Bankole

Mr. Dimeji Bankole left the PDP some years ago. He went to a relatively unknown political party in his bid to become the Ogun State governor. When his efforts hit the rock, unfortunately, he dumped his unpopular party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He embraced the party along with Mr. Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state.

But he may still not get what he wants from the APC. His ultimate dream at this time is to rule Ogun State. He is very young, but there is no way he can stop the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, from having the party ticket again so he can run for the constitutional second term. If the PDP approaches Mr. Dimeji Bankole again, he would consider a return to the PDP ahead of 2023 polls.

Elisha Abbo

Mr. Elisha Abbo, a senator from Adamawa State, also left the PDP on the ground that the state governor didn’t allow him to freely operate. He didn’t provide evidence or details about what led to his defection. But he left eventually.

If the powerful northern politician, Atiku Abubakar, can talk to Mr. Elisha Abbo, the senator, who is still much younger, would consider a return to the PDP. He is even not getting enough recognition in the Adamawa State chapter of the APC.
