Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has pledged to work closely with ranking lawmakers and newly elected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers State House of Assembly following the February 21 by-elections into the state legislature.
The by-elections saw Ukalikpe Napoleon emerge victorious in Ahoada East State Constituency II, while Loolo Bulabari Henrietta clinched the Khana State Constituency II seat.
Governor Fubara described their victories as well-deserved, noting that the outcome reflected the confidence and trust the constituents have in the candidates.
“It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in your capacity, they will give you their votes,” the governor said.
He added that he looks forward to working harmoniously with the newly elected lawmakers and their colleagues in the Assembly to advance the development agenda of the state.

“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the progress of our state,” he stated.
The governor also commended residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies for their peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections, describing the exercise as a demonstration of democratic maturity in Rivers State.
The latest development comes against the backdrop of recent political tensions in the state. On February 19, the Rivers State House of Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, following a prolonged political rift between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The crisis, which had deepened divisions within the state’s political structure, eventually led to the declaration of a six-month emergency rule in Rivers State before recent moves signalled efforts at restoring stability and cooperation within the political leadership.
