Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has forwarded a list of nine commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

In a statement released Tuesday, Emeka Amadi, Clerk of the Rivers Assembly, instructed the nominees to submit their credentials for review.

Each nominee is required to provide forty (40) sets of their curriculum vitae (CV), photocopies of academic and professional credentials, and evidence of tax compliance. Documents are to be submitted to the office of the Clerk at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters.

The nominees are: Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Lekue Kenneth, Otonye Amachree, and Amairigha Edward Hart.

This development follows a period of political turbulence in the state. Barely a month ago, President Bola Tinubu met with Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to resolve a longstanding political rift in Rivers State.

Tinubu’s intervention at the State House, Abuja, reportedly settled the dispute between Fubara and Wike, a former governor of the state.

Shortly after the presidential meeting, Fubara dissolved the state executive council and instructed special advisers and commissioners to hand over responsibilities to permanent secretaries. In a related move, the Rivers Assembly suspended its third impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Minister Wike later stated that Tinubu’s intervention would be the final resolution to the political crisis, which began in 2023 over control of the state and escalated into the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers by President Tinubu.

The submission of the commissioner nominees marks a significant step in stabilizing the state’s political and administrative structure, with the Assembly expected to commence screening and confirmation proceedings in the coming days.
