Gombe state records 72 road deaths, 171 crashes in six months

The Gombe State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that no fewer than 72 deaths were recorded in 171 road crashes between January and June 2025. The accidents, which involved 1,156 people, also left 641 persons with varying degrees of injuries. According to the FRSC, over-speeding and dangerous driving are the leading causes of these fatal incidents.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has reported a grim statistic of crashes for the first half of 2025, with no fewer than 72 people killed in 171 road crashes between January and June.

According to the Gombe Sector Commander, Kaura, the accidents involved a total of 1,156 people. Of this number, 641 sustained injuries, while 443 were fortunate to escape unhurt. The data from the FRSC shows that 6.23% of those involved in the crashes died, while 55.45% were injured.

The commander also highlighted that 234 vehicles were involved in these crashes, with bicycles and tricycles making up a significant portion at 44.87%.

A month-by-month breakdown of the fatalities shows a consistent pattern of tragic incidents:

January: 18 deaths

February: 12 deaths

March: 5 deaths

April: 16 deaths

May: 5 deaths

June: 16 deaths

The FRSC attributed the suspected causes of these crashes to factors such as over-speeding, dangerous driving, route violation, and overloading.

The sector commander expressed concern over the disregard for traffic rules and advised motorists to always check their vehicles before setting out, especially during the current rainy season.
