The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was on Tuesday docked at the Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos on gun possession allegations.

Emefiele, clad in yellow jalabiya, who arrived the court at about 9 a. m. amidst tight security, clutched a big black Bible in his hands, entered the dock and pleaded “My Lord, I am not guilty” to two count charges preferred against him.

The charge against Emefiele is possession of a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence, an offence said to be contrary to Section 4 of the Firearms Act, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

Lawyers on the sides of Defence and Prosecution are presently arguing whether or not Emefiele should be released on bail.

While Defence argued that the Application for bail should be heard, a lawyer from the Ministry said, they have not been served.

The court is to rule on the argument as at the time of filing this story.
