The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, for the alleged murder of her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, aged 30, following a violent domestic altercation in Daura town.
The tragic incident unfolded late on May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura.
According to police reports, a heated dispute between the two co-wives escalated into a physical confrontation, ultimately resulting in Zainab’s death from multiple stab wounds.
Their husband, Nasir Yusuf, reportedly returned home from the market around 11:00 p.m. to find Zainab lying in a pool of blood.
He promptly alerted the police, and officers led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) arrived swiftly at the scene. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where she was pronounced dead.

During preliminary investigations, Rabi’a Labaran allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that the disagreement between her and Zainab spiraled out of control and led to the fatal stabbing.
Confirming the arrest, Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act in strong terms and called on the public to resolve domestic disputes through peaceful and lawful means.
“Disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Taking the law into one’s hands only deepens the crisis and erodes the rule of law,” he said.
The police command has assured that thorough investigations are ongoing and that Rabi’a remains in custody as legal proceedings are prepared.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and addressing domestic violence within the state.
