The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, marking the start of the second phase of the process. The resumption took effect today, following the conclusion of the first phase, which formally ended on December 10, 2025.
The electoral body had initially launched online pre-registration for the exercise on August 18, 2025, before commencing in-person registration at designated centres across the country on August 25, 2025.
In December 2025, INEC disclosed that 9,891,801 Nigerians had initiated online pre-registration during the first phase.
Of this number, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of November 28, 2025, comprising 1,503,832 online completions and 1,068,222 physical registrations.
INEC explained that the interval between the two phases was used to conduct statutory activities required by law, including the display of the register of voters for claims and objections.

According to the commission, the display exercise took place from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR was conducted, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.
The commission is urging all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the resumed registration period to register as voters, transfer their voting locations, or update personal information.
INEC also encouraged those who registered during the first phase to verify their data, report errors, and raise objections to the inclusion of ineligible or deceased persons on the voters’ register.
However, CVR activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral processes in those locations. INEC assured that new dates for voter registration in Anambra and the FCT would be announced in due course.
Electoral observers note that the resumption of CVR is crucial in preparing for upcoming elections, ensuring that eligible citizens are registered and that the voters’ register is accurate, up-to-date, and inclusive.
