Insecurity: IGP assures Police, Army, others making progress to defeat bandits

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, in Ilorin, Kwara State assured Nigerians that the Nigerian military, including the Nigeria Police and others are making progress to defeat bandits and end banditry in the country.

IGP Usman Alkali at the Kwara Police Command, Ilorin, had emphasized: “The police are not fighting alone.

“All other security agencies, in synergy, are fighting the bandits, including the military, which is leading the war and we’re winning.”

The IGP recalled the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari for annual recruitment of 10,000 police officers to reinforce the security apparatus and strengthen the efforts towards crime control and fight against bandits, kidnappers, and others in the country.

He noted that though the force has not conducted the regular recruitment as approved by the President but are committed to double efforts to accomplish the goal. The IG further assured the personnel of the Kwara Police Command of their welfare, urging them to be more dedicated to the duty of securing the country internally.

IGP Usman Alkali had stated: “The president has given approval for us to employ 10,000 every year for six years.

“We have started but we have not done so for 2020. So, we are doing for 2020 and 2021 between now and 2021. Their training is for six months.

“So, we are expecting to increase our strength by 20,000, latest by the end of 2022.”

The IGP maintained: “I am here to tell you that there is no problem about the Nigerian police that I don’t know about. But there is hope at the end of the tunnel.

“Is it our welfare that we are not working on? We are working on our welfare. Is it the logistics to do the work? We are working on it. Is it our place of abode, accommodation? We are working on it!”
