The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has ordered a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the mysterious deaths of two students, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, at the Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi.
The deceased students were reportedly attacked by their colleagues using local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale.”
A statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, confirmed the incident.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Muhammad, Commissioner Makoda assured the public that the state government is committed to conducting a fair and transparent investigation, promising that justice would be served for all parties involved.
“It was reported that the brutal act followed a decision taken by some senior students to treat the deceased as punishment for allegedly committing an offence,” the statement indicated.
The Permanent Secretary, who has already visited the school, cautioned students against resorting to vigilantism or taking the law into their own hands.

“You should avoid taking law into your hands but rather make sure you report any matter of concern to the school authority for appropriate action,” Muhammad was quoted as saying.
He extended profound sympathies to the families and relatives of the deceased, adding, “On behalf of the Kano State Government, Ministry of Education and good people of Kano State, we extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for Almighty Allah to grant their souls Jannatul Firdaus.”
Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Secondary School, Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
He emphasized the critical importance of students not misusing their privileges or engaging in self-help.
“Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident,” Abdullahi added, reinforcing the commitment to finding answers.
