In a shocking incident, three staff members of Innoson Motors were abducted on Wednesday morning by gunmen at the company’s motorcycle showroom on Owerri Road, Nnewi, Anambra State.
The victims, identified as the company’s Secretary, Finance Manager, and a Security Officer, were taken to an undisclosed location, leaving their families and colleagues in distress.
The Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the abduction, which occurred around 6:45 a.m. Ikenga assured the public that the Anambra Joint Security Forces are actively working to rescue the victims unharmed and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Efforts are ongoing to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible,” Ikenga said. “We urge anyone with useful information to report to the Command Headquarters in Awka or the nearest police station.”
The kidnapping has sent shockwaves through Nnewi, a hub for commerce and industry in Nigeria. Residents and business owners have expressed concerns over the increasing insecurity in the region, which they fear could disrupt economic activities.
“This is a serious blow to Nnewi’s reputation as a peaceful business community,” said Emeka Obi, a local business leader. “If companies like Innoson Motors are not safe, what hope is there for smaller enterprises?”
Security analysts have emphasized the need for a more proactive approach to tackle the rising wave of abductions in Anambra and other parts of the Southeast.

“Kidnapping for ransom has become a significant threat to Nigeria’s security architecture,” said Dr. Nkem Okafor, a criminologist. “The government needs to invest more in intelligence gathering and community policing to address this menace.”
Okafor also highlighted the economic implications of such incidents. “Frequent attacks on businesses discourage local and foreign investment, which is detrimental to Nigeria’s economic recovery efforts.”
Community leaders have called for better collaboration between security forces and local stakeholders to address security challenges.
“We must unite as a community to support the security agencies in their efforts,” said Chief Nwafor Anigbo, a traditional leader in Nnewi. “Everyone has a role to play in ensuring safety and peace in our community.”
The Anambra State government has condemned the incident and pledged to enhance security in the region.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of every resident and business in the state,” a government spokesperson said. “The Joint Security Forces are working tirelessly to address the situation.”
As rescue efforts intensify, the public remains hopeful for the safe return of the abducted staff.
Security experts and community leaders have called for heightened vigilance and sustained pressure on criminal elements to deter future incidents.
“Kidnappings undermine public trust and stability,” said Okafor. “Addressing this issue requires a multi-faceted approach, including stronger laws, better enforcement, and community engagement.”
The abduction of Innoson staff serves as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s pressing security challenges and the urgent need for decisive action.
