A young entrepreneur, Musa Adamu, who applied his elementary knowledge of Physics to advance his profession, has advised youth to embrace entrepreneurship to combat the challenges of unemployment.
Adamu, aged 25, is a holder of Ordinary National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic, and also possesses little Computer knowledge, who engages in repairs of vehicle rims at the famous Panteka market in Kaduna metropolis.
Rim is the outer edge of a car wheel that holds the tyre. It makes up the outer circular design of the wheel on which the inside edge of the tyre is mounted on vehicles such as automobiles.
He told the Newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday that he started learning skills after his Junior WAEC, handling problems associated with car rims.
According to him, his father encouraged him to develop the mindset of becoming self-reliant.
” After studying all the challenges we face during repairs, I started thinking of how to find solutions on my own, through research to develop my machine that can solve problem associated with rims.
” I applied one of the topics learnt in Physic at Kaduna Polytechnic on “Axis” as a reference point in handling all problems of rims ” he claimed.
An axis is an invisible line around which an object rotates, or spins. The object can be a tiny particle, smaller than a single atom.
Adamu explained that with his little experience, he developed an ‘Automobile Rims System Manual’, which he used as a guide in the repairs of vehicle rims.
” I can solve any problem associated with rims manually, and my hand work is better than that of automatic machine.
“Each time I take any rim I repaired to the computer for verification of my manual work, it always indicates ‘approved’, meaning that the work is satisfactory,” he said.
Speaking on job opportunities, he said there was an offer from one of the electricity distribution companies, but he rejected it.
“I have rejected appointment from PHCN because I have my own business and I am doing well; I know a lot of graduates doing their own kind of businesses and are no longer interested in white collar job,” he said.
He advised that apart from youth acquiring education, their is also need for them to develop the entrepreneurial mindset that would enable them thrive in the midst of challenges by learning to identify opportunities.
He also stressed the need for inclusion of Arts and Craft courses in the curriculum of primary and secondary schools.
“Also, ‘ Entrepreneurship’ as a course of study in tertiary institutions, should go beyond ‘theory’ and ensure achievement of a desire result” , he added.
He admonished parents to always encourage their children to acquire some skills, alongside formal education, to broaden their job opportunities, instead of depending solely on white collar jobs.
