Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed deep disappointment over the decision of the Kano State Government—elected under the Kwankwasiyya political movement he leads—to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso spoke shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and several of his political allies were formally received into the APC, marking a significant shift in Kano’s political alignment.
In a video shared on Facebook by Sunusi Oscar, Kwankwaso said he was saddened by what he described as the abrupt movement of a government built on the sacrifices of the Kwankwasiyya faithful to what he called “Gandujiyya”—a faction associated with former Kano State governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“This government was formed with a lot of sacrifice, but without any clear reason that we know, it was taken away from our Kwankwasiyya structure and moved elsewhere,” Kwankwaso said.
He described the development as both painful and disappointing, adding that while the political realignment remains unclear to him and his supporters, he believes only God knows the true reasons behind it.

Despite his disappointment, the former governor expressed hope that the eventual outcome would still be favourable for members of the Kwankwasiyya movement across Kano State. He said he continues to pray for his supporters and urged them to remain steadfast.
Kwankwaso also congratulated members of the Kano State House of Assembly who emerged victorious in recent elections held in Ungogo and parts of Kano Municipal. However, he noted that voter turnout in the affected constituencies was low.
In his closing remarks, Kwankwaso reassured supporters that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains open to those who followed the state government into the APC, stressing that the door remains open for their return.
