Lagos announces traffic diversion for Lagos-Badagry road reconstruction

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan to facilitate the reconstruction of the Lagos-Badagry Carriageway.

The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement issued on Friday.

The diversion plan, set to begin on August 26, 2024, and continue until January 31, 2025, will be implemented in sections to reduce inconvenience for motorists.

The first phase of the reconstruction will focus on the stretch of Durbar Junction, affecting both the toll and service lanes heading towards Badagry. This phase will run from August 26 to September 30, 2024.

To manage traffic during this period, Osiyemi advised motorists to use designated alternative routes:

For Traffic Heading to Badagry from Lagos (Toll Lane Repairs): Vehicles traveling towards Badagry on the toll lane will be diverted to the service lane approximately 100 meters before the repair site. They will rejoin the toll lane 100 meters after passing the Durbar Junction.

For Traffic Heading to Badagry from Lagos (Service Lane Repairs): Vehicles on the service lane will be diverted to the toll lane 100 meters before the repair site and will return to the service lane 100 meters after Durbar Junction.

For Traffic from Durbar Road to Badagry: Vehicles will be redirected to Fagbems Road towards Apple Junction, then onto Festac Road, continuing towards Alakija Road to rejoin the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Osiyemi called for motorists’ understanding and assured that traffic management officers would be stationed along the affected routes to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

He also mentioned that notifications for subsequent sections of the reconstruction would be provided upon the completion of the first phase.
