The Lagos State Government has strongly refuted allegations made by former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over the demolition of a property allegedly belonging to his brother.

In an official statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the state government declared that no agency under its jurisdiction, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), was responsible for the said demolition.

“We find it disturbing that Mr. Peter Obi would make such allegations without verifying the facts,” the statement read, describing the claims as both “unfounded and misleading.”

Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, the Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development who supervises LASBCA, also affirmed that the agency had no involvement in the matter.

To provide clarity and establish the facts, the state government has directed the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, FNIA, to initiate a thorough investigation through LASBCA.

The probe is aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the reported demolition and confirming whether any private or unauthorized actors were involved.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its unwavering commitment to the rule of law and public safety, assuring residents that it does not condone illegal demolitions or acts of lawlessness.

“Any violator of the law, irrespective of status, will be held accountable,” the statement added.

In a final note, the government emphasized its inclusive stance, stating that Lagos remains a home for all Nigerians, regardless of their state of origin.

“We urge the public to disregard Mr. Peter Obi’s claims and rest assured that the Lagos State Government will continue to work tirelessly to uphold law, order, and justice for all,” the statement concluded.

This development comes amid growing public concern over property rights enforcement in Nigeria’s commercial capital, with the state promising transparency and due process in all land and development-related issues.
