The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody officers accused of assaulting popular actor and skit maker, Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, following widespread public outrage over the alleged incident.

The development was confirmed on Friday, February 6, 2026, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the police, the officers linked to the incident have been identified and are currently undergoing internal investigation.

Adebisi disclosed that statements are being taken from all parties involved, including the affected officers, the actor, and a friend who was with him at the time of the incident.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. At present, the officers, the complainant, and his friend are all giving their statements. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the statement read.

The police action follows the circulation of a video on social media that showed Ijoba Lande seated in the front passenger seat of a vehicle with visible injuries, including bleeding on the left side of his face and noticeable bruises.

In the footage, the actor, speaking in Yoruba, repeatedly asked for water while bystanders tried to calm him and advised that the matter be reported at a police station.

A voice heard in the background of the video alleged that officers attached to the Area “J” Police Division were responsible for the assault, repeatedly mentioning the station and describing the incident as an abuse of authority.

By the end of the clip, the group appeared to have arrived at a police facility, where the actor seemed visibly calmer.

The caption accompanying the viral video further alleged that the entertainer was robbed during the encounter. It claimed that his iPhone 16 Pro Max, as well as $1,200 belonging to his brother, were taken during the incident.

“I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption stated.

In response, the Lagos State Police Command assured members of the public that the allegations are being taken seriously and that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any officer found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation.

The incident has reignited public debate over police conduct and accountability, with many Nigerians calling for transparency and justice as investigations continue.
