The expectation for peace campaign and elections in Lagos State may have come under threat as Agberos were alleged to be unleashing violence on Igbo traders in several parts of the state. There have been incidents and complaints of attack in certain parts of the state, particularly, the Alaba International market, Ojo, where Agberos have launched open attack on traders, leading to intervention of the Nigerian police.
Moreover, some residents of the state in Ajegunle axis have also complained of invasion of their shops and carting away of their goods by some Agberos in the state.
There were earlier incidents of attack on people who were registering for PVCs at the Alaba International Market, and some other locations in the state.
The spate of violence has continued to cause panic in the state. This is beginning to overlap political violence and attack on party members except the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Some members of the Labour Party (LP) were recently attacked in certain parts of the state.
Also, on Sunday evening at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry Local Government. thugs attacked the campaign team of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos, Olajide Adediran, known as Jandor.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, in a statement on Sunday, acknowledged the attack, disclosing several PDP members, including journalists were injured.
The State Publicity Secretary highlighted: “The campaign train of the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party was attacked today while returning from visitation to members of the party at the Ikoga Junction area of Badagry Local Government by All Progressives Congress sponsored thugs this evening,” he stated.
“The attack led to injuries of several members of Jandor’s entourage and pressmen. As of the time of this press statement, one of the news reporters is in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital while those injured are being treated.
“The thugs that attack the campaign train were shouting APC while shooting guns and using dangerous weapons.
“You will recall that our party raised concern over the threat to use APC-sponsored thugs to attack the campaign programs of our Gubernatorial candidate Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran-Jandor recently and we would like to state categorically that this will not deter the determination of our candidate to campaign for the next election and win the election come March 29, 2023.”
