A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced two security guards, 23-year-old Shetima Abubakar and 30-year-old, Babagana Adamu to clean court premises for theft.

The Magistrate Ekpeyong Inyang ordered the security guards to clean the court’s premises for three hours daily and provide a guarantor each.

Inyang, however, warned the convicts to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.

The police charged the security guards with criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Samuel Emmanuel told the court that the complainant, Edward Tunkarimu reported the matter at the Galadimawa Police Station on June 21.

Emmanuel said that the complainant employed Abubakar and Adamu as security guards at Priston Construction Company, Kaura District.

He said that the security guards conspired and stole iron rods valued N300,000 adding that the offence contravened sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

Abubakar and Adamu however pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy saying that they would not do it again.

The defence counsel, Enagonimi Ekpede prayed to the court to temper justice with mercy saying that the convicts did not waste the court’s time and are remorseful.

“The stolen items have been recovered by the police and the convicts are first time offenders. Adamu is a family man with children,” she said. (NAN)
